RAISE HIGH THE BANNER
Words by: John A. Anderson / Music by: James Yorkston
Ye sons o' St Ronan's, come gather together
And tryst on the Leithen the 'Burn lassies fair:
Ye gallants o' Yarrow, come march thro' the heather
And meet, as of yore, wi' the lads o' the Quair
The exiles that lang ower the world hae been roamin'
Are a' comin back to their ain native glen
Then gather aince mair in the soft autumn gloamin'
To raise high St. Ronan’s blue banner again
Chorus:
Then Raise high the banner, St Ronan's blue banner,
Lets its folds proudly wave while we show the world
That the lads o' St. Ronan's, wherever they wander,
Are leal to the Vale when the banner’s unfurled
Owre Quair's flo'ery valley the sunlight is streaming
And flooding wi' golden rays meadows and lea,
On Plora's proud bosom the heather is gleaming,
While crystal Tweed ripples in laughter and glee
The blate wee blue bells on the broomy clad Curley
Are nodding their heids to the stern auld Lee Pen,
And wreathing in smiles his face scarred and surley,
While the chorus resounds, "Raise the banner again"
Chorus : – Then raise high the banner,
Our fathers and all the brave men gone before us-
We cherish their deeds, tho’ forgot be their names;
'Tis their voices we hear in the breeze whispering o’er us,
Long flourish the vale and oor auld Border Games"
Kit North" and the "Shepherd", wi' gentle "Sir Walter",
Bright band o'Immortals – join in the refrain:
March onward, St. Ronan's, let not your steps falter,
While ye raise high the banner again and again
Chorus : – Then raise high the banner,
And tryst on the Leithen the 'Burn lassies fair:
Ye gallants o' Yarrow, come march thro' the heather
